NNU Invite Day 1

We had a great day today on the first day of our invitational.  The men's team set three new school records, lowest single-round score (-4, 284), lowest individual round score (-5, 67 by Mike Delie) and lowest 36-hole total (-1, 285-291  576).  Connor was right behind Mike with an opening-round 68.

We have a pretty good lead on the second-place team heading into the final round, so we are looking to move that record down a couple more strokes tomorrow.

The women's team sits in second-place, just one stroke behind two teams who are tied for the lead, so that's the goal on Tuesday.  Sam shot 80, Jessica had 82 and Haley came in with 83 to lead the women's squad.

Here's a video from today's action by our awesome SID, Mike Stetson...

Spring Break week at Cal Baptist

The Men's team made the trip to Corona, California for the Cal Baptist Invitational during spring break week this year.  The event was played at Eagle Glen Golf Club, which offers some pretty incredible views of the valley and a pretty tough golf course.  We climbed the team leaderboard during the second and third rounds to finish 10th, but would have liked to make it into the single-digits in the team finish.  Our first round number was a little high, so that set us back off the bat and we couldn't quite recover to make it into 8th or 9th place in a strong field.

They have real RoadRunners here!

Women's & Men's Round by Round Notes and Results...

Women's team at Corban Invite

A great first round for the ladies Monday at Creekside C.C. in Salem.  Matched our second-lowest team score and a new personal competitive best for Carleigh!!  Great Job Carl!

The ladies held firm on Tuesday and finished 4th in Salem.  Another solid effort by Carleigh and Sam.

Carleigh 79-88-82
Brittney 92-91-90
Haley 81-80-89
Sam 80-80-80
Jessica 86-88-88

Men's team at NDNU Invite

Monday morning proved to be a challenge for everyone.  A 2-hour fog delay that was followed by pretty slow play made for a long first round.  The second round picked up the pace a little, but we were still unable to finish round two and will have to play 20 holes tomorrow.  We are looking for a second round score around 300 if we hold steady to where we are at right now.  I think that would move us up the team standings and then we can try and make a final push up the leader board in round three.

I can tell we were shaking off the winter rust in the opening round, even though we have been qualifying all during February, real competition is still different from inter-team qualifying.  I'm excited for Tuesday.

We avoided the fog on Tuesday and were able to get started on time...however, we lost a little ground and played the final two holes in +3 as a team to shoot 307.

The final round was very similar to round two, decent ball striking from the group...but getting putts to drop was the challenge...a lot of tap-in pars and a few too many tap-in bogeys.  We have just under two weeks to get ready for Cal Baptist!
